Fashion is always at least one season ahead, and the world of footwear is no exception. Fall’s sassiest, sexiest shoes will start turning up in stores this August. Now, if you’re like me, you want the summer days of beachy totes and sandals to go on forever. But the truth is, we live in a world where you’ve got to stay ahead of the curve. The Pumpkin Spice Latte comes back August 1 every year, and unfortunately so do the Halloween decorations, sweaters and boots.
This fall is all about drama!
Everything on the runway for Fall 2018 was sequined and feathered and buckled to the hilt. And girl, I am here for it. Some years are very minimalist, almost to the point of being drab. But 2018 is giving us plenty of self-consciously fierce footwear. Of course, most of us won’t be wearing a shoe like this crazy sexy mohawk bootie from YSL. But the feathers and maybe even elements of that unique heel will trickle down to us mere mortals.
Reds are here to stay!!
One trend that will be carrying over from the summer is bright colors, and red in particular. This Bow Crossover Sandal from Jessica Simpson perfectly illustrates the embellishment and color trends we’ll be seeing for the rest of the year. Bows are going to be everywhere, and so will the color red. For me, this style is fire. Look for sexy bright red leather boots as fall gets closer. What a way to dress up a little black dress or pair of jeans!
Feel the funk with 70’s throwbacks!
A lot of looks this fall are going to be hearkening back to the 70s. Designers are giving us chunky angled heels and platforms. Take a look at this strappy number from Michael Kors. It’s bringing the sex appeal by exposing much of the foot. That minimalist strap contrasted with the chunky base is doing it for me. And I love the flower adorning that peep toe. To me, this shoe is like a clinic for some of the hottest trends to look for this fall. This Savoca 70 shoe from Shoes of Prey is a more affordable example of this shoe that can be worn to work.
Plaid is Back…Jack!
To me, plaid is the craziest 70s throwback making a return in Fall 2018. And the most insane thing about it? It’s working! These designers have made the fabric that reminds me of my old school uniforms seem totally fashion-forward. That’s what I love about fashion. Every season I am truly surprised by some of the things I fall in love with. Vivienne Tam and Balenciaga send some sexy plaid boots down the runway back in March. Depending on your style and personality, plaids can look punk rock, prim and British, or rugged. It’s a look with a lot to offer for everyone. This classic look will be going strong through winter.
Make way for the roaring 80’s!
But the 70s are not the only decade getting a second look during Fall 2018. The 80s are back with a vengeance, too. Stella McCartney’s denim boots may have debuted in Summer 2018, but this is a look with legs, honey. It’s gonna walk right through the autumn, especially in climates that don’t see the sleet and rain of the Northeast. The 80s trend continues with these satin bootie-shoes by Miu Miu. Look at those brooches! Have you seen anything like that before? These draped shoes remind me of something Molly Ringwald would’ve worn in Pretty in Pink. Though they don’t seem practical or easy to clean, styles like this are surging right now. This Self-Portrait boot from Sadie is just one (pricey!) example.
And finally the boot: Queen of fall shoes!
Finally, for Fall 2018 the humble cowboy boot will also be on trend. Versions from Paco Rabanne incorporate popular fabric and heel styles. In keeping with the extra feel of Fall 2018, I think I’d opt for something a little less reserved. I like this red, fringed, pointed toe look from Circle G. While there’s a lot going on there, this is a bootie. Paired with a jean or a cute knee-length skirt, it’s just enough flair. I also love this heavily inlaid boot by Corral. Isn’t it beautiful? That angled heel is very now, too. I would pair this with a black skirt or little black dress, maybe with a denim jacket. I think it makes such a sexy little date night outfit.
Which of these styles for Fall 2018 lights your fire? Which do you think is just strange? Let’s have a little kiki in the comments below!
